Computer Science (M.S., B.S.)

• Core C.S.

  CPSC 1010 - Computer Science I

  An introduction to the C language and the basics of programming. A summarized history of computing was examined, along with best programming practices, recursion, and loops.

  
  CPSC 1020 - Computer Science II

  This course introduced C++ and object-oriented programming concepts. The correct use of inheritance, pointers, and functions was tested heavily.

  
  CPSC 2070 - Discrete Structures

  An introduction to mathematical proofs, set theory, permutations, and truth tables. The material I learned in this class laid the groundwork for later courses such as CPSC 3500 and 3520.

  
  CPSC 2120 - Algorithms/Data Structures

  Many concepts were covered in this course, from big-O notation, hashtables, and trees, to the benefits and disadvantages of many common algorithms. Even though a lot was covered, the class was still expected to become very familiar with each introduced concept.

  
  CPSC 2150 - Software Dev Foundations

  This course stressed correct practices in software development, from writing preconditions to carrying out extensive software testing. All projects were written in Java and thorough testing was accomplished using JUnit.

  
  CPSC 2310 - Intro to Computer Organization

  An introduction to assembly language, binary arithmetic, and the process computers take when converting a program in a high-level language to one in binary.

  
  CPSC 3600 - Network Programming

  This course covered the theory and real-life applications of the transmittal of data packets over networks. The structure and design of the Internet was studied in detail.

  
  CPSC 3300 - Computer Systems Organization

  An in-depth overview of the CPU and how program instructions are fetched and executed in an efficient manner. Different optimizations for various operations during program execution were examined.

  
  CPSC 3520 - Programming Systems

  An introduction to grammars and functional programming languages. Assignments were completed in the OCaml and Prolog languages.

  
  CPSC 3220 - Intro to Operating Systems

  An extensive overview of the security, design, and implementation of various features of operating systems along with many real-world examples.

  
  CPSC 3500 - Foundations of Computer Science

  An introduction to many concepts used in the theory of computation, such as finite automata, Turing machines, and mathematical proofs.

  
  CPSC 3720 - Software Engineering

  A study of real-world software engineering practices with a focus on Agile methodologies. Group assignments ranged from designing use case diagrams to writing unambiguous function contracts.

  
  CPSC 2910 - Prof Issues I

  An investigation into social and ethical issues in the realm of computing and emerging technologies such as A.I. and autonomous vehicles.

  
  CPSC 4910 - Professional Issues II

  This course was centered around a semester-long group project in a Scrum environment. It was designed to be as similar to the real world as possible, meaning client requirements change and documented weekly sprints were required. [Final Class Project Info]

  
  CPSC 4620 - Database Management Systems

  An introduction to MySQL, PHP, and HTML/CSS, along with the basics behind database systems. A semester-long group project centered around creating a data-base-backed website was required using the LAMP stack.

• Specialized C.S.

  CPSC 4110 - Virtual Reality Systems

  Examination of the history, applications, and theory behind mixed reality, namely virtual reality. The course required a semester-long group project to address some real-world issue or provide some form of service. For this project, my group and I created a VR application that utilized graded exposure therapy to help treat individuals who have claustrophobic reactions to MRI scans.   CPSC 6820 - Special Topics: Tangible and Embodied Interaction

  This course investigated the field of tangible devices and interfaces and centered around a semester-long group project. Our group created a virtual prototype of the Coin Pager, a small microcontroller-powered device for young cell-phone-less children to communicate with their parents. [Final Class Project Info]

  
  CPSC 4050 - Computer Graphics

  An introduction to the theory behind and applications of computer graphics. OpenGL was used in various programming assignments. [Final Class Project Info]

  
  CPSC 6140 - Human and Computer Interaction

  A study of proper design in websites and software. We also studied how to carry out user interviews to find important takeaways in what users really want in an application.

  
  CPSC 6440 - Cloud Computing Architecture

  An introduction to Cloud Computing heavily focused on AWS. Concepts such as VPCs, EC2 instances, and S3 buckets were studied. A final project utilizing AWS services was required.

  
  CPSC 6160 - 2-D Game Engine Construction

  An investigation into game design and 2-D game engine components. A semester-long individual game was required. [Final Class Project Info]

• Advanced C.S.

  CPSC 8510 - Software Systems Data Communication

  An overview of how devices communicate across networks. Topics such as TCP/IP, sockets, traffic control and modeling, and performance evaluation were studied.

  
  CPSC 8710 - Foundations of Software Engineering

  An investigation into the current software engineering landscape. My team and I studied how stress impacts productivity and social relations of software developers before and during the COVID-19 pandemic for our final research paper.

  
  HCC 8310 - Fundamentals of HCC

  This course focused on various HCC theories and models, such as Activity Theory, Embodied cognition, and Situated Action. My team and I investigated how users perceive recommendations in online shopping environments for our final research paper.

  
  CPSC 8810 - Human Factors Software Engineering

  This course built upon CPSC 8710 by focusing on the human aspects relating to software development. I investigated the relationship between webcams and social presence during remote work for my final research paper.

  
  HCC 8500 - Science of Teamwork and Technology

  Course instructed by Dr. Nathan McNeese, human-A.I. teaming expert. Dived into the current research landscape of teamwork and tech. Final grade heavily based on writing a group semester-long publishable research paper.

  
  MATH 9850 - Blockchains, Security, & Privacy

  An introduction to blockchains, cryptocurrencies, and the underlying mathematical concepts behind it all. The Ropsten test network (Ethereum) was utilized for assignments.

  MATH 1060 - Calculus of One Variable I

  An introduction to limits, derivates, and integrals. Concepts in trigonometry were covered as well.

  
  MATH 1080 - Calculus of One Variable II

  A more in-depth study of the concepts covered in MATH 1060, along with new topics such as polar coordinates.

  
  STAT 3090 - Introductory Business Stats

  A study of various topics in introductory statistics, from probability to sampling distributions.

  
  MATH 3110 - Linear Algebra

  This course introduced matrices and their applications, from linear transformations to vector spaces.

Spanish (B.A.)

• Core Language

  SPAN 3020 - Int Spanish Grammar and Composition

  This course reviewed many grammatical concepts and utilized numerous writing assignments and post-assignment correction sheets to give practice and reduce any bad grammar habits.

  
  SPAN 3050 - Intermediate Spanish Conversation and Composition

  This course was centered around various assignments designed to give practice on spoken and written Spanish. Brief essays and group presentations were commonly assigned.

  
  SPAN 3140 - Hispanic Linguistics

  An introduction to various topics within linguistics, from phonetics to semantics. The Spanish language was studied extensively within these contexts.

  
  SPAN 4170 - Professional Communication

  A participation-focused seminar that examined how to properly communicate in professional settings. Group communication was highly encouraged and gave ample speaking practice.

  
  ENGL 1030 - Composition and Rhetoric

  A study of multiple short essays and the techniques used to craft and compose convincing arguments across multiple mediums, including videos.

  
  ENGL 3140 - Technical Writing

  This course covered how to correctly create multiple writing forms commonly found in the workplace, from memos to informational reports.

• Culture and Literature

  SPAN 3040 - Intro Hispanic Literary Forms

  A study of various Hispanic art forms, from poetry to film to creative writing. Group presentations were common and examined multiple aspects of each assigned literary form.

  
  SPAN 4070 - Hispanic Film

  An introduction to Hispanic film. We studied basic cinematic principles as we watched and examined multiple films throughout the semester, from "¡Bienvenido Mr. Marshal!" (1953) to "La Isla Mínima" (2014). An emphasis was placed on the work and theories of David Bordwell.

• Study Abroad (Universidad Blas Pascal, Córdoba, AR)

  SPAN 3080 - Hispanic World: Latin America

  Exploration into the history of Latin America with an emphasis on the Argentine Republic. Studied trends in political and social movements from the pre-colonial era up to the modern day. This course provided me the background necessary to better understand the motives, conflicts, and relationships between Latin American countries, along with their North American and European acquaintances.

  
  SPAN 4060 - Narrative Fiction

  Course instructed by prize-winning author Eugenia Almeida. A study of techniques used commonly in fiction, explored across the works of various Latin American authors, such as Jorge Luis Borges.

  
  SPAN 4090 - Comp Writ in Span

  This course required multiple writing assignments that gave ample practice and feedback.

  
  SPAN 4110 - Advanced Conversation & Composition

  A review of grammatical structures and common pitfalls when conversating in Spanish. The course required one-on-one professor-student speaking assignments.

  
  SPAN 4350 - Contemporary Hispanic Culture

  A study of Hispanic culture with an emphasis on the Argentine culture. This course helped me a good deal in integrating myself into Argentine society, since I learned a lot about the norms of everyday life for the typical Argentine.

  
  SPAN 4980 - Independent Study

  This course required a lengthy essay, in Spanish, covering the entire study abroad experience. The paper examined what I learned, cultural and societal differences, and my in-depth thoughts about the entire experience.
